Back To The Future (2017)

TCT were thrilled when asked to assist with the planning for the 15^th biennial conference of the New Zealand Association of Mathematics Teachers (NZAMT) in our hometown.

The Objective

With the ‘Back to the Future’ theme this conference was simultaneously future focused and mindful of past wisdom. Encourage delegates to embrace moving mathematics and statistics education forward with all its possibilities of incorporating innovation, expanding knowledge and technology, while at the same time, looking back, learning from and honoring what has gone before.

Programme & Content

Deliberately broad, this theme provided speakers and delegates an opportunity to be both reflective and future-looking, to consolidate, regenerate and push the boundaries of mathematics and statistics education. ‘Back to the Future’ offered a thought provoking, exciting and fun programme.

We secured some amazing keynote speakers that definitely fit the theme and we are also grateful to the other invited spotlight speakers and to the large number of delegates who presented workshops enabling us to provide a diverse programme that give delegates an opportunity to be both reflective and future-thinking.

Social Program

The social program needed to balance the opportunity to relax, mix and mingle while providing valuable business networking which was achieved through the three separate event experiences; the Tuesday Happy hour, Wednesday Pub Quiz Night and the Thursday Conference Dinner.

With the dinner providing the real opportunity to let their hair down, we encouraged them to get into the theme and come in character, dress from any of the era’s in the movies (Western, 50’s, 80’s or Futuristic), or come ready to go to a school 50’s prom. We used the magnificent Aircraft Hall at the heart of the Wigram Air Force Museum to provide a naturally stunning and highly unique setting for a night to remember!
