Below is a summary of the Optional Tours developed for the ASBA Conference attendees, their partners and companions. All tours will be offered on an exclusive basis - minimum of 10 people and depart and return to The Convention Centre, Kilmore Street.of 10 people.

If a named supplier is unavailable, a substitute supplier will be used where possible. Times are approximate only and subject to change to meet any weather, road or supplier restrictions.

MONDAY 18 JULY




Waipara Wine Tour
Time: 9.30 am - 3.30 pm
Cost: NZ$110

The South Island of New Zealand has some of the southernmost vineyards in the world with climatic conditions which produce distinctive wines that cannot be found anywhere else. The Waipara Valley is Canterbury's fastest growing wine region, located 50 minutes north of Christchurch with around 80 vineyards covering more than 1,500 hectares of plantings. It is an ideal cool climate grape growing region with Pinot Noir, Riesling, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc dominating local plantings.

City Orientation Tour
Time: 9.00 am - 12.30 pm

TUESDAY 19 JULY





Arthurs Pass Tour - including TranzAlpine Train
Time: 7.45 am - 5.00 pm
Cost: NZ$295

This tour will take you on an unequalled scenic experience travelling deep into New Zealand's mighty Southern Alps. Travel across the Canterbury Plains to the township of Springfield where you will board the TranzAlpine train and view the alpine scenery enroute to Arthurs Pass. Continue by road to the Main Divide, just reaching the West Coast to view the 440 metre Otira Gorge viaduct - one of the most notable environmental engineering achievements in New Zealand. After lunch in Arthurs Pass, drive through the picturesque high alpine Porters Pass, stopping at the clear pristine waters of the Waimakariri River for a jetboat ride through the rocky gorge and afternoon tea.

Akaroa Scenic Day Tour

Visit the beautiful historic seaside town of Akaroa known for its French heritage, and majestic scenery. Travel the scenic route to Akaroa, around the scenic coves and bays of Banks Peninsula, formed from an extinct volcano.

Cooking Lesson
Time: 9.30 am - 3.00 pm

A chance to learn first-hand cooking secrets and practical techniques from celebrated Executive Chef Jimmy McIntyre. Incorporating a visit to Otahuna's organic potager gardens and lunch with wine so you can savour the fruits of your labour.

Hanmer Springs Day Tour
Time: 8.30 am - 5.00 pm

Nestled in the magnificent South Island high country is Hanmer Springs, a beautiful and charming alpine village & spa resort surrounded by majestic mountains and mature forests. For 125 years, Hanmer Springs has attracted visitors seeking the benefits of it's natural mineral waters and clean, clear alpine air. Optional extra: jet boating the length of the spectacular Waiau Gorge (additional cost).

Skiing at Mt Hutt
Time: 7.00 am - 6.00 pm

Travel on the Snowbus to Mt Hutt for a day of skiing. Rental equipment available for additional cost. The Snowbus is a daily shuttle that operates to / from Mount Hutt Ski field
