You’ve heard it all before – the world’s going to end, we’re to blame and there’s not much we can do! Join Prime Minister’s Environmentalist of the Year Arron Wood as he explores how climate change may just be New Zealand and Australia’s greatest opportunity to become global environmental leaders and generate billions of dollars in the process. Having recently returned from a Churchill Fellowship that saw him work with the United Nations in New York and Geneva, Arron will detail how we can become an environmental education and innovation global centre. The presentation will also ask questions like: What has the environment got to do with depression?; What is 'Kids Teaching Kids' and how is the environment a valuable student behavioural tool? How can schools be environmental leaders within their communities? How can one person begin to make a difference to a global issue?; and What sort of future can we expect? Combined with some alarming facts and humorous personal stories this is not your standard environmental lecture – prepare to be involved in the presentation!

  Dr Kerry Spackman
Lessons from World Champions - and what it means for you

Dr Kerry Spackman is held in high regard by some of the world's greatest thinkers as it’s very rare for someone to develop a completely new approach which genuinely helps people to significantly improve their lives by improving both their performance and happiness at the same time.
A neuroscientist, Kerry has a rich history of entering a new field and coming up with award winning ideas and redefining World best practice. He shows you how to use and customise the groundbreaking
tools he pioneered for elite athletes, Olympic champions, and upper-echelon businesspeople, to permanently rewire your brain and transform your life.  His approach has been so successful across such a diverse range of people that he wrote his tools and techniques down in a single easy to read book so the average person can have access to the same tools as the World Champions.

Kerry will take you through what separates out people who are multiple World Champions (eg Michael Schumacher/Federer/etc) from everyone else – he’ll give specific examples (and it’s far from the usual things you might think) in a visual, interactive, energetic and challenging           presentation.  He’ll explain what he does with people who are ALREADY the best in the world so they can take the next step and then he’ll relate everything back to the challenges you are facing in 2011 and beyond.

  Bill Daniels
Planning for non-government schools in the Australian context
Bill was appointed Executive Director of the Independent Schools Council of Australia in 2001 after a career of 35 years with the Australian Government. This included many years in the education portfolio where he was head of the Schools Division from 1994 to 1998 and the Student Assistance and Indigenous Programs Division from 1990 to 1994. He also spent five years as the Chief of Staff of the Australian Minister for Education and the Minister for Resources and Energy.
The ISCA secretariat is based in Canberra and as the peak national body representing the independent schools sector it concentrates on research and analysis as well as representation, advocacy and communication with those associated with non-government and government education communities in Australia and internationally.

Deborah James
Planning for independent schools in the NZ context

Deborah was appointed Executive Director of Independent Schools of New Zealand (ISNZ) in February 2008. ISNZ is the representative body of 43 Member Schools that collectively educate 80 percent of students in the private schools sector. The ISNZ secretariat is based in Wellington and focuses on advocacy for choice in education, representation, professional development for its members and communications with education agencies and associated groups in New Zealand and abroad.

In daring to dream Deborah will present the case for the economic and philosophical benefits of the presence of an independent schools sector, one where political support should not be at the whim of the government of the day. Using the findings of the New Zealand Institute of Economic Research on ‘Funding Arrangements for Independent Schools’ Deborah will explore the notion that where there is a well-designed interface between the state and private systems both equity and efficiency in education can be improved with subsequent educational outcomes benefitting all children.
